Research Beyond Google: 119 Authoritative, Invisible, and Comprehensive Resources



Got a research paper or thesis to write for school? Want to research using the Internet? Good luck. There's a lot of junk out there — outdated pages, broken links, and inaccurate information. Using Google or Wikipedia may lead you to some results, but you can't always be sure of accuracy. And what's more, you'll only be searching a fraction of all of the resources available to you.




Google, the largest search database on the planet, currently has around 50 billion web pages indexed. That's a lot of information. But it's nothing compared to what else is out there. Google can only index the visible web, or searchable web. But the invisible web, or deep web, is estimated to be 500 times bigger than the searchable web. The invisible web comprises databases and results of specialty search engines that the popular search engines simply are not able to index.

New data from the Planck telescope indicates that the universe is 13.82 Billion years old — 100 million years older than we thought.

Planck launched into space in 2009 and has been scanning the skies ever since. It reads the cosmic microwave background radiation, which is the energy signature of the Big Bang, when the universe was born.
"This light started out as a white hot glow ... it would have been blindingly bright," Charles Lawrence, U.S. Planck project scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a press conference today. "During 13.8 billion years the universe has expanded and this light became a very cold glow that our eyes can't see."

Star's planet 'could support life'

A planet with conditions that could support life orbits a twin neighbour of the sun visible to the naked eye, scientists have revealed.
The planet is one of five thought to be circling Tau Ceti, a star just 12 light years away which is almost identical to the sun.
Astronomers estimate the Tau Ceti planets to be two to six times bigger than Earth.
One of them, with five times the Earth’s mass, lies in the star’s “habitable zone”.
